RIP my favorite shows

While there are a few shows I'm actually a fanatic of as opposed to just watch casually do still exist, it seems to me most don't last long. I wonder if it is due to people just not wanting to watch strong women. Of the shows that remain most are ensemble casts, one isn't really of the same type and is my "anomylous" show, and only one is focused on a kick ass woman, two even, but is also somewhat ensemble with a teenage boy seeming to be the favorite of most fans I'm seeing although I may be wrong. And one is going to end in a few months but did apparenlty run it's story arch.

I do have to concede that one of the shortest lived which had ass kicking women was actually a male led ensemble, Firefly, but this isn't the first time I wondered about the reasons behind that. I mean River was probably pretty scary. True also that Buffy had a fairly long run but then perhaps Buffy wasn't as scary as River. So maybe I'm talking out of my ass.

But it hit me that we got two ass kicking women led shows this past season and only one made it. And I'm surprised by that one. Bionic Woman was nearly dead of of the gate and that probably was partially due to the writer's strike. The Sarah Connor Chronicles seemed to be in danger too. I wonder if the fans of John Connor however have more to do with it remaining. I'd think Summer Glau as Cameron was as threatening as River. Or maybe not. She's strong but she is a robot while River may have started as a special genius but was still Just a Girl genius until she was mind fucked so, you know, scary girl rather than scary robot.

Jaime in Bionic Woman was totally Just a Girl and wasn't totally a robot so perhaps too scary? Maybe people aren't ready for Just some Girls who can really kick ass? But then there was Buffy for 7 whole seasons which could have still been longer as far as I'm concerned.

So I don't know what I'm talking about really. But I'm frustrated. I've been really upset since Painkiller Jane was canned and now since the Bionic Woman was. I'm glad to have Heroes and TSCC remaining and I'm happy Battlestar Galactica will actually be running a split season and therefore lasting longer while at the same time I'm going to be frustrated waiting to learn what will happen. LOL I am losing interest in Lost which remains because I find that the women are getting less interesting. Kate cries too much these days. I sort of got less into it after Ana Lucia came in and before she came in it was ore something I watched casually than a fandom for me which might be what's happening to it for me now.

Now all I have is BSG until the hiatus. Then I wait for the new season. I think I might get more into movies. I've never gotten into many unless friends have gotten me to watch them like Bend it Like Beckham which got me into other Keira Knightley movies or ones related to games I used to play alot like Tomb Raider and Resident Evil. So I know I've missed alot of good action heroines out there.

Painkiller Jane

Painkiller Jane

Like most of my favorite shows this one no longer runs, I will probably have to write on that one of these days. I loved the show, it was my first introduction to the Painkiller Jane world and I thought Kristanna Loken was amazing. I loved the "stock up on
Tylenol" line. The pain issue did make it interesting for me, sorry if this delves into my own life a bit too much here but this is one case where it might.

I decided to check out the comic and now I do understand why some comic fans didn't like the series so much. I mean I still do love it, but I now think it could have been better. I would have loved to have had it more like the comic, with Loken with bright red hair and skin tight leather. I suppose that the extensive dressing in bandages might not work, I think that only would look good if you were drawn, but the rest. And keeping more of teh story line, not the hunting down neuros thing. And more womeh, the 22 Brides rather than these boys she hung out with on the show.

And, yes, more of the concept of her being in pain all the time. That she doesn't kill the pain, she just lives through it. Lives through everything. Yeah, I would have loved that.

Yet, I will keep rewatching the show, even as collect the comics. Both Janes kick ass while looking good.
